Tomorrowing - Visions of a Better Future

As a young Black female creative, I explore how communal rituals, like Black hair care, build bonds and reclaim cultural pride.

The piece depicts hands nurturing a young woman’s hair, symbolizing patience, care, and the time invested in community. Haircare staples—like oil, an afro comb, and a hot comb—represent Black liberation, creativity, and ancestral connection. The jungle-like background reflects community as an ecosystem: diverse, interdependent, and thriving through harmony.

Ultimately, this work calls for a shift from individualism to collective care, urging us to prioritise compassion and shared goals over short-term gains.
